The Diversity Visa Program, commonly known as the Green Card lottery and offering the opportunity to live and work in the United States, has been suspended indefinitely. The decision was taken on the instruction of US President Donald Trump.
According to statements from the White House, a comprehensive security review of immigration policies was launched following armed attacks at Brown University and MIT campuses. During this process, the view emerged that continuing the Diversity Visa program in its current form was unacceptable.
US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced on the X platform that, in line with Trump’s directive, US Citizenship and Immigration Services was ordered to immediately suspend the program. In her statement, Noem referenced the entry process of the attacker, arguing that there were serious vulnerabilities within the system.
